Apartheid

"Not very subtle"

submission: Apartheid
date: March 26, 2006

Although I sympathetic to anti-Apartheid causes, this cartoon just sort of beats the viewer over the head with the subject. If this was a class project or something of the sort, I commend the creator. However, I didn't think this was anything new as political/civil rights cartoons go. Also, I've heard "Greensleeves" so much that it is grating.

The Godson

"Godfather III was bad, this is worse."

submission: The Godson
date: March 17, 2006

Mafiosos are expected to be violent, so this flash was basically just a vehicle for violence; forget the story. One doesn't become Don of a family by murdering their Godfather.

There is little reason given for the Godson's "new methods." We are supposed to imagine he's like Santino Corleone, but we aren't given a backstory.

Writing like "You'll become the leader of our pride..." makes it sound like the Lion King more than a Mob story.

There is some good art, but as mentioned by another reviewer, the voice acting is horrible. The story is very much lacking too. Having "the House of the Rising Sun," was hardly appropriate for the ending

Also, Nikolai isn't an Italian name.

Asking the viewer to have patience for this is a joke. No real story, no loose ends tied. Just a bad tribute to a bunch of mob films.

Across The Universe

"The Invisibles condensed..."

date: March 6, 2006

I really enjoyed this short. The pacing and the synchronicity with the music was good. There are some Christian overtones; a painting of the Crucifixion by Dali, but not disrespectful toward any other traditions, that and I like Dali. The use of the Cypherman from the Invisibles was also another cool incorporation. I think that the gas-masked individual individual has a powerful place in the subconscious; they are remniscent of the "Plague Masks" of the days of the Bubonic Plague.
